This is a mix inspired by one of my favourite musical eras – the early to mid 90s. Despite being ‘brought up’ on Soul and Funk in the early 80s and then taking in Electro, Hip Hop and the early forms of House from the mid to late 80s it was the 90s for me where things really started getting interesting. Sure there are some clichés but it’s hard to avoid them when they sound so damn good.

For me the soulful/deep house sound coming out of the US was the benchmark but in the mid 90s we saw some of the European producers finally mastering the sound and pushing it in new directions. Learning from the Bible of Kenny and Louie, Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry, Jazz and Groove and more it was Mousse T, Boris Duglosch and some of the UK heads such as Booker T and Bobby and Steve who were the musical disciples.

Much of the music of this era has been an influence to me, and it lives on today in the Enzyme Black productions.. long may it be the case. Some of the tracks above are hard to find on download, some are not.. all of them are timeless for me.

Got some hot news - 3 new tracks have been completed and finalised for the forthcoming Back 2 Deep EP Volume 2 and also 3 additional tougher tracks for a new EP series to be announced soon. A new artist will soon be featuring on Enzyme Black with a more Detroit Techno influenced vibe and also expect to see some more 'eclectic' flavoured mixes on forthcoming releases now that the Sango Ritual mixes have been so well received.

The Classic Mix has echoes of 'French Kiss' with the repetitive modulated synth riff and suspenseful, sustained high pitch string patch. Driving Afro House rhythms and chants push things forward whilst the live Sax solo and HUGE drop take the floor to the next level.

The Afro Sermon Re-rub brings a jazzier, more eclectic vibe to the party with live brush snares and a syncopated, almost broken beat rhythm. Enzyme Black Recordings are back with a 3 track EP of Deep House Flavours. Already roadtested by a select collection of DJs this heavy selection brings back some of those old school US House flavours in a more contemporary package.

The majestic ‘Time of Mine’ features Deep Rhodes chords, a killer bassline and jackhammer beats. The stop-start DJ style edits give it a New York flavour with just a touch of Hip Hop attitude. The middle eight takes things darker with a stab riff that commands attention leading into the drop with the siren like synth bursts.

The Beautiful ‘Digital Lust’ is a sultry love affair set to a soundtrack of filtered strings and deep sub bass. Middle Eastern percussion tripped into oblivion provides a rhythmic bed onto which the manipulated vocals moan and purr sensously.

Finally ‘Back 2 Deep’ hits hard and energetically with a retro polysynth riff backed up by B4 Hammond Organ, Piano and a wicked Synth bassline. Tough breakbeat tinged House rhythms, warm pads and relaxed flute complete the package.
